Andrei, the couple’s second son, is born. Viola completes The Passing, a private meditation on birth, death and the desert landscape, for ZDF Television. He creates The Stopping Mind, a complex audio and video installation in which he pursues the exploration of self-generating time structures he began in 1988, for an exhibition to mark the inauguration of Frankfurt’s new Museum für Moderne Kunst.
