Rebellious Colours For secondary school classes of the First grade

On the occasion of the exhibition Helen Frankenthaler: Painting Without Rules, visits and workshops are offered to schools of all levels to experience the exhibition as a space for personal experimentation and sharing with the whole class.

The tours are calibrated for the different age groups, are structured in a dialogue mode and include hands-on experiences in the exhibition. The activities in the workshop follow the visit and invite visitors to rework the stimuli received from the works through an experience to be carried out independently or in groups.

Before the visit

During the first days of the exhibition, free meetings are organised for teachers and materials are made available to prepare for the visit, deepen some content on the artists and make the activities more inclusive.

Materiali di approfondimento Available from 9 october

After booking, teachers are asked to fill in a pre-visit questionnaire (soon available) that gathers information about the characteristics of the class in order to improve the visiting experience.

Visiting the exhibition

The exhibition offers the possibility of an immersive experience in colour thanks to the direct relationship with large canvases where intense tones and boundless nuances give life to forms open to infinite interpretations.
The tour dedicated to secondary schools becomes an opportunity to discover the works of Helen Frankenthaler, an innovative figure in the field of abstract painting, and other artists close to her such as Marc Rothko and Jackson Pollock with whom she shared ideas and research.
The visit includes moments of individual interaction with the works, group discussions and hands-on experiences to reflect on how art is the result of personal intuition, countercultural choices, experimentation, comparisons and mutual influences.

Duration one and a half hours
Cost 3 € per student plus ticket price (free for students with disabilities, teachers accompanying the class)

Visit + workshop

A visit to Helen Frankenthaler’s exhibition can be complemented by a workshop experience that invites us to learn about the processes used by the artist in creating her works, such as her innovative soak-stain technique. Pouring, observing, mixing, adding and removing colour: we discover that each gesture is the result of an intuitive approach and inspirations drawn from what we observe and experience.
Through individual experimentation and group dynamics, the activity invites us to express ourselves through colour, be open to surprises and accept the unexpected as part of the creative process.

Duration two hours
Cost 4 € per student plus ticket price (free for students with disabilities, teachers accompanying the class)
