To tie in with the Olafur Eliasson: Nel tuo tempo exhibition, the Fondazione Scienza e Tecnica and the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi are holding two special guided tours exploring the links between some of Olafur Eliasson’s artworks and the optical instruments in the museum’s collection.
Optics and Olafur Eliasson
The Museo della Fondazione Scienza e Tecnica hosts not only a very rich Library but also the natural and physical science collections which belonged to the erstwhile Istituto Tecnico Toscano (1850) and which have increased in complexity, variety and value over time. Today the museum, still with its original decor, houses thousands of finds documenting the development of scientific and educational instruments in various fields.
The collection in the Optics Section includes a debuscope (a toy patented in 1859 which produces effects similar to those of a kaleidoscope), a Brewster kaleidoscope and a Soleil device for observing crystals in converging polarised light.
This event is part of the Fuorimostra programme of events and activities designed to tie in with the Olafur Eliasson: Nel tuo tempo exhibition.
Activity in Italian only.
There is no charge for the tour but you will need to buy a ticket admitting you to the museum.
Reservations are required.
