On the occasion of the exhibition Tracey Emin. Sex and Solitude, Fondazione CR Firenze and Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi are promoting a special series of guided tours to get to know the artist’s work through her own words: extracts from interviews and conversations to discover her way of telling her story.
Tracey Emin’s art always starts from an autobiographical narrative: desire, love, violence, the relationship with the body, as well as her deep interest in artists of the past such as Egon Schiele, Edvard Munch and Louise Bourgeois. Her life finds expression in paintings, sculptures, neon, embroidery, different languages that always lead back to her interiority.
Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995 and My Bed are two disruptive works from the 1990s that defined Emin’s direct way of telling her story, generating admiration, but also scandal and revulsion. Since then, Emin has given dozens of interviews in which he talks about herself, her frailties, difficulties and successes, emphasising how her experience has always had a profound centrality in her artistic production.
EMIN tells EMIN is a special tour format in which the works are presented through the words of the artist, from past interviews and quotations to the recent dialogue with Arturo Galansino, curator of the exhibition and General Director of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, published in the Palazzo Strozzi exhibition catalogue. A journey through the works on display that will allow visitors to enter inside the artist’s work, reconstructing its themes and exploring its language without filters.
