Nuances is a scheme targeting autistic youngsters and adults developed by Palazzo Strozzi in conjunction with the Associazione Autismo Firenze. The scheme is devised for small groups and consists of activities structured to facilitate interaction with the works of art on display in the exhibition rooms.
At the start of the project, an introductory meeting is organised for carers to tour the Reaching for the Stars exhibition together and to familiarise with the environment. To help with planning tours, carers are offered materials such as a sensory map of the exhibition and a social history containing information on the premises and on the works of art on display. Each encounter is preceded by a phone call with Palazzo Strozzi’s educators to discuss the group’s particular characteristics.

Introductory meeting
The introductory meeting will be held at Palazzo Strozzi and is intended for all professionals wishing to accompany a group. The meeting will be held on Wednesday 12 April from 15.00 to 16.30 and attendance is compulsory if you wish to take part in the scheme.
Reservations must be made no later than Monday 10 April.

The activities, in the shape of tours with small groups of people, will be held both in the exhibition rooms and in the Maria Manetti Shrem Educational Center. The tour of the exhibition will take in a selection of works of art. Various forms of non-verbal interaction and sensory experiences will be proposed during the tour to foster interaction with the artworks and to encourage participants to voice their own opinion.
All activities take place on site in accordance with a fixed schedule and are open to a maximum of 5 people (plus carers). Activities last one and a half hours, although this may vary according to the group’s specific needs.
