The Appropriations project, devoted to art academy students, is based on the idea of using the Bill Viola. Electronic Renaissance exhibition as an arena for debating the production of new works of art by reflecting on the ability of art (whether of the past or of the present) to spawn new art in a ceaseless process of generation and revisitation of forms down the centuries.
This, because the exhibition offers a unique opportunity for directly comparing Viola’s work with the masterpieces of the great masters of the past who have been a source of inspiration for him. Copy, citation and appropriation are the strategies around which the students will be setting new creative processes in motion. Two talks with the artists Roberto Fassone and Luigi Presicce will complete the process by addressing the theme from a different perspective.
The work produced by the students in the context of the Appropriations project will, in turn, provide the working basis for an exhibition organised by students with IED Firenze’s Art Management course from 22 to 30 June 2017.
