«Donatello parmi les fauves» is an educational project intended for Tuscany’s leading academies of art, produced to tie in with the Donatello, the Renaissance exhibition and inspired by the phrase coined by French art critic Louis Vauxcelles at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1905 when he decreed the birth of a new generation of artists ‘outside the fold’ whom he therefore christened “wild beasts”. The aim of the project is to use the great Florentine master’s art, his talent for renewing the language of sculpture and historical impressions as catalysts for the production of new works of art.
The project concerns young artists from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, California State University, the Fondazione Studio Marangoni, the LABA Libera Accademia di Belle Arti and the Istituto Marangoni Firenze who will be involved in the production of new works of art inspired by the concept of breaking established norms and of the clash between generations, while in parallel a group of young Accademia Italiana designers will be involved in the production of a magazine to contain the most significant projects.
The project has taken place from March to June 2022, alternating independent work with teacher support, with moments for sharing and debating at Palazzo Strozzi. The activity kicked off with an introductory encounter devoted to the exhibition and to the research theme, continued with direct interaction with a number of guests, and moved into the development of the magazine to host the most representative artistic projects and wind up with a public presentation.
